Legendary Lion head coach Joe Hamilton relied on the strong arm of quarterback Rick Groves, running back Steve Campos and receivers Mike Robertson and Charlie Reina. Other Lion standouts included Tom Miller, Mark Nemecek, Thom Helbling, Dave Anderson, Dan Sheets, Leonard Hill, Harry Eakles, Cliff Hudson, Tom Jackson, and Larry Kisic.

Legendary Bobcat head coach Pat Tarquinio countered with quarterback Bob Powers, running backs Chad Huemme and Ralph Thomas and receivers James Elsworth and Jeff McCandless. Other notable Bobcats included Chuck Kelly, Ron Kunkle, John Navage, Greg Inge, Ken Anderson, David Whitten and Kirk Zinke.
